Abstract

Under the theme “The Square as a space for the construction and preservation of the memory of historical events in the city of Ponta Grossa”, we sought to awaken in students an interest in local issues, providing meaningful learning to support the understanding of their socio cultural reality. The research proposed to be developed in the Professional Master's in History Teaching included a critical analysis of the monuments of Praça Marechal Floriano Peixoto. The purpose of this work was guided by the development of strategies for studying local history, relating them to Heritage Education and the spaces of memory and monuments located in this Square. The relevance of this research was justified by what it represents, both historically, politically, and socially for the Ponta-Grossense community. In this public space, the first steps towards the “opening” of the path that led to the formation and establishment of the city of today are recorded, making it one of the main historical points of the city. The didactic product offered was the making of a board game based on research carried out with students on the monuments of the square. By offering an option of didactic material for working on local history through play activities, the intention was to make the moment of learning pleasurable and more effective. The game had as illustrations the scenario of the square in the timeline option, with questions related to the local history and the monuments studied.
