Construindo identidade: O papel do Parque Lago de Olarias na dinâmica cultural da cidade de Ponta Grossa

Abstract

This thesis investigates how the concept of cultural identity can be employed to understand the dynamics of relationships between individuals, social groups, and public spaces, with an emphasis on interactions mediated by social media. The empirical object of the research is the Parque Lago de Olarias, located in Ponta Grossa (PR), whose recent construction has promoted new forms of appropriation, belonging, and social identification, both in physical and digital environments. The research adopts the Scandinavian method and is structured into five scientific articles connected by a central question: How can the concept of Cultural Identity be employed to deepen the understanding of relational dynamics between individuals, specific groups, or spaces, especially in the context of social media and internet use, based on the case of Parque Lago de Olarias? The methodological approach is mixed, with a qualitative emphasis, incorporating document analysis, bibliometrics, in loco observations, questionnaires, and content analysis of data extracted from Google Maps and social media platforms. The main findings indicate that: Parque Lago de Olarias has become a symbol of urban renewal and local gentrification, transforming into a reference point for leisure, tourism, and urban identity; Recreational, sports, and cultural activities play a central role in constructing symbolic ties to the space; The analysis of spontaneous comments on digital platforms reveals feelings of belonging, social criticism, and symbolic disputes; The park’s presence on social media (Instagram, Facebook, and Google Maps) creates networks of affection, engagement, and collective meaning; There is a continuous negotiation between individual and collective identity, enhanced by the use of hashtags, geolocation, and the sharing of online experiences. The thesis demonstrates that, despite the fluidity characteristic of the digital world, individuals seek solid forms of belonging and recognition through the symbolic appropriation of public spaces. In this sense, Parque Lago de Olarias emerges as a paradigmatic space for understanding new forms of urban sociability and identity construction in contemporary society.
