Abstract

The Jaynes-Cummings model is considered paradigmatic in Quantum Optics. Introduced in 1963, it describes the dynamics resulting from the coupling between a two-level atom and a quantized mode of the electromagnetic field. From it, non-classical aspects of the interaction between radiation and matter emerge, such as the collapses and revivals of the Rabi oscillations. Extensions of the model, which consider, for example, atomic motion, make the coupling parameter time-dependent, and as a consequence, the time evolution of the system changes. In this work, we explore the effects of time-dependent coupling parameters on the population inversion and the entanglement between atom and field. In particular, we study the scenario of an atom moving in a not completely cooled cavity. Analyses such as the one we present are important in the context of Quantum Control, where managing the atomic state is a key objective. Additionally, we conduct a heuristic study of a method we call the inverse problem approach, in which the coupling is modulated based on the desired population inversion. We apply this technique to simulate the effects of κ-deformation in an undeformed Jaynes-Cummings model.
