Quadro teórico das apropriações dos conceitos de convergência em teses e dissertações da Pós-Graduação Acadêmica Stricto Sensu em Jornalismo do Brasil

Abstract

This research proposes a theoretical framework of the appropriations of the concept of convergence in theses and dissertations from the postgraduate programs in Journalism at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (PPGJor-UFSC) and the State University of Ponta Grossa (PPGJor-UEPG). The general objective of this work is to understand how the concepts from convergence are theoretically appropriated in the research developed at PPGJor-UFSC and PPGJor-UEPG. The specific objectives are: to historicize the creation of the Brazilian research area of Digital Journalism; to select the theses and dissertations, based on the conceptualizations from convergence; to outline the theoretical framework of the concepts of convergence specific to Journalism in the theses and dissertations selected from the only public stricto sensu academic postgraduate programs in Journalism in Brazil, PPGJor-UFSC and PPGJor-UEPG. The methodological process for analyzing theses and dissertations is based on “Pesquisa da Pesquisa”Research on Research (Lopes, 1988; Silva, 1989, 2019; Maldonado et al., 2011; Pontes, 2009; Almeida, 2018), specifically from a genetic perspective (Pontes, 2009), through quantitative and qualitative operations. The results show that the theses and dissertations analyzed, which are based on the theoretical framework of convergence, have theoretical frameworks anchored in general concepts and in concepts specific to journalism that mention convergence from the point of view of journalism standards, in other words, the investigations do not only focus on the macro level of the significance of convergence in the area of Communication and in the broad area of Social Sciences, but also on the particularities of journalism. The appropriate concepts were published between 2003 and 2014 by the Spanish's José García-Avilés, Pere Masip, Ramón Salaverría and Samuel Negredo, the German Klaus Meier, the Austrian Andy Kaltenbrunner, the North Americans August Grant, Douglas Fisher, Janet Kolodzy and Jeffrey Wilkinson and the Brazilian Suzana Barbosa. The theoretical frameworks of the works analyzed at UFSC and UEPG present four concepts of convergence specific to journalism with 12 different definitions that illustrate the phenomena that have transformed journalism, news companies, journalists, news processes, scientific research in the area and teaching in journalism over the last 30 years. In conclusion, the ways in which the concepts from convergence were theoretically appropriated at UFSC and UEPG followed the genetics of the Brazilian research area of Digital Journalism. It was noted that four main factors shape the ways in which convergence concepts are theoretically appropriated at UFSC and UEPG: 1) the relationship between supervisor and mentee; 2) the paradigms of the work production environment and the scientific field; 3) participation in research groups; 4) the relationship between teacher and student in disciplines; 5) exchanges and dialogues at events, courses and in other spaces (e.g.).
