Abstract
This thesis analyzes the applicability of the Quality of Working Life (QWL) Model proposed
by Richard Walton in 1973, considering the demands and transformations of contemporary
work. The main objective is to investigate whether the model, widely used in research on QWL,
needs to be complemented with other tools to meet current demands, providing a more accurate
and comprehensive analysis in different professional and organizational contexts. Using the
multipaper format, the research consists of three articles that address, respectively, the
application of the model in recent studies, the necessary complementary categories and the
evaluation of the model in different organizational contexts. The first article examines scientific
publications from 2016 to 2020, showing that Walton's model is widely used, but requires
complementary instruments to address factors such as mental health, stress and social support.
The second article identifies additional categories, such as flexibility, impact of technologies
and psychological demands, through a systematic review that used the Methodi Ordinatio
methodology. The third article assesses the application of the model in 17 studies, highlighting
how contemporary tools can overcome its limitations when considering professional and
organizational specificities. Furthermore, it suggests that managers use this information to
develop personalized intervention strategies, promoting improvements in employee satisfaction
and well-being. The results indicate that, although Walton's model remains relevant, it does not
fully encompass the complexities of modern work, such as the increasing adoption of digital
technologies and changes in labor relations. The research highlights the need for
complementation with instruments adapted to emerging factors for a more accurate and
comprehensive analysis of QWL. The thesis concludes that Walton's model is a solid basis for
QWL studies, but its effectiveness increases when integrated with contemporary approaches.
This integration makes it possible to identify weaknesses and develop management strategies
focused on promoting employee well-being and improving organizational results. Thus, the
work contributes to the modernization of QWL management practices, aligning theory and
practice with the needs of the current context.
