Abstract
This research focuses on immigrants, especially immigrant women, in conditions of
social vulnerability, and how they fit into the Brazilian labor market. Regarding the
process of insertion of immigrants in Brazilian society, some obstacles were
highlighted, such as: reception, mastering the language, the issue of racial
discrimination and document bureaucracy. These conditions allow part of the
immigrants to become part of the “socially vulnerable” class. Thus, immigrants, and
especially immigrant women, in situations of social vulnerability may face greater
difficulties in entering the Brazilian labor market when compared to Brazilians in similar
conditions (social vulnerability). For a better understanding of this problem, this
research used exploratory and econometric statistics, having CadÚnico microdata as
a data source. Our results revealed that immigrants in a situation of social vulnerability
have a higher incidence of unemployment compared to natives in similar conditions.
Specifically for immigrant women, the situation is even more challenging, with higher
unemployment statistics compared to men. However, once inserted in the labor
market, immigrant women manage to position themselves in formal jobs at a higher
magnitude than Brazilian women, a factor that may be related to their higher level of
qualification.
