Abstract
The study of electronic monitoring of people through the use of electronic ankle bracelets, when serving a sentence in Brazil is the object of this dissertation. It is a work developed in Applied Social Sciences and that presents an interdisciplinary view in a multipaper model. The results obtained through the methods proposed to answer and meet the aims and objectives of this research were organized in the form of scientific articles. It begins with an article that provides a methodological analysis of the study of the object in social sciences, followed by two others that present the state of knowledge on the subject and on the study of criminality in Brazil. Next, three scientific articles dealing with the electronic anklet itself. The first with data on the number of people monitored electronically in Brazil, with emphasis on data from the state of Paraná and the municipality of Ponta Grossa. The second with a study of electronic monitoring from the epistemological viewpoint of the social and legal sciences. And the third analyzing the issue of social stigma arising from the use of the device. The exercise of citizenship by more than 50 thousand people monitored electronically is a challenge.
