Abstract
It was evaluated the effect of the application mode (manual active [MA] and
manual passive [MP]) of universal adhesives and dentin moisture (wet [W] and
dry [D]) on the adhesion of glass fiber posts (GFP) to root canal. Ninety-six
human canines, which had their crowns removed and their roots endodontically
treated were used. After one week, the GFP were cemented according to the
combination of the following factors: dentin moisture (D and W), cementing system (universal adhesive system associated with the respective resin cement): Single Bond Universal/RelyX ARC (SBR) and Prime&Bond elect/Enforce (PBE) and adhesive application mode (MA and MP). After one week, 8 teeth per group were evaluated in bond strength (BS) by the push-out test and 4 teeth in nanoleakage (NI) by scanning electron microscopy (SEM);for these tests the roots were sectioned transversely into 6 slices (1-mm thick each). The data from each test were analyzed by 3-way ANOVA and Tukey test (α = 0.05). For BS and NI, the triple interaction was significant (p< 0.05). In general, lower results of BS were observed for MP application independent of dentin moisture; for MA application, the SBU was higher than the PBE in both moistures. The NI was present in all groups, while in the PBE+W+MP and
SBR+D+MP the values had the highest percentages (36% and 32% respectively). It can be concluded that the active application of universal adhesive systems was able to improve the adhesion of glass fiber posts to root canal, independent of dentin moisture condition.
