Abstract
This study aims to demonstrate a methodology for obtaining data from heterogeneous sources for the generation of information by the government, especially the municipal authorities. The powers that structure the public administration have undergone changes over time, but not at the speed that the society has done so. The collection and provision of data necessary to generate information which hinders the decision-making process by public administrators still goes back to models defined at the end of the twentieth century, and do not address the plurality and complexity of society today. The need to use different sources of data to generate information is a crucial point so that the decisions taken by managers are actually based on current and consistent data, while data from private companies and even within the state structure become fundamental for such actions. The uses of tools, whether proprietary or developed specifically, with preference to free software platforms, supplement this initiative to demonstrate concepts and
characteristics to the procedures that actually meet the needs of the public manager. By using the following tools, Febrl, Pentaho, Open Office Base, and a tool developed
specifically for this study (which was based on the Google Maps API’s platform), this need was information was taken care by drawing important characteristics so that the
public administration can utilize various sources of data as basis for their actions and decisions.
