Abstract

This work deals with environmental policies of the three urban municipal parks of Ponta Grossa – Paraná, Brazil. These parks, known as Boca da Ronda, Margherita Sannini Masini and Rio Verde, were established by the Municipal Law No. 4,832 of December 9, 1992. This research was developed under a systemic perspective using literature review as a methodological approach. Primary and secondary sources were used, in addition to field observations, to understand the application of environmental policies and the public use of these spaces. It was possible to verify that environmental policies in the urban parks of Ponta Grossa are punctual and fragmentary. The government fails to enforce the law, mainly regarding oversight and monitoring of conservation units. It is important to constantly improve these processes as urban municipal parks are relevant for both environment and society. In addition to serving as spaces for leisure, exercise and activities that promote environmental education, these parks are some of the few remaining spaces suitable for the conservation of biodiversity in urban areas.
