Resumo
Foreign direct investment (FDI) is often seen as a means for domestic firms to acquire expertise from their interactions with multinationals and thereby increase their productivity. In this way, many countries attempt to actively attract FDI with this purpose as justification, but does this perceived benefit actually occur? In this sense, the goal of this dissertation is to explore this hypothesis with respect to the economy of South Africa. For this, a dynamic general stochastic equilibrium model (DSGE) was employed with two types of firms (domestic and multinational) and with government. The results of this
analysis reveal that a shock of relief in the tax rate on the acquisition of labor in the sector of multinational firms causes the total production to increase, however, the expected spillover in the productivity of domestic firms did not occur due to the misallocation of resources productive.
