Abstract

Colostrum is the key to the calf's growth, providing different nutrients. In addition to immunoglobulins, responsible for the transfer of passive immunity, there are bioactive compounds that promote cell differentiation and intestinal growth, which help in the activation of metabolic processes, promoting greater absorption of nutrients and immunological components. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of insulin, insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and leptin concentrations in colostrum on the occurrence of endoparasites in beef calves and their relationship with changes in metabolites. calf blood. Twenty female bovines were used, 12 heifers (Group 1) and 8 cows (Group 2) and the animals born from these females. Blood samples were collected from mothers after delivery (T0U: single time zero), from calves at birth (T0), 24 h, 48 h and 168 h after colostration, for biochemical analysis of blood metabolites and by ELISA test the evaluation of insulin, IGF-1 and letin concentrations. Colostrum was collected soon after delivery and the analysis of its components was performed. The feces of cows and heifers were collected at precalving and then together with the collection of feces from the calves 30 days after birth and monthly until weaning, to carry out the egg count per gram of feces (OPG), coproculture and identification. of the larvae of gastrointestinal parasites. For the statistical analysis, analysis of variance (ANOVA) was performed, for the comparison of two means, analyzes were performed using Tukey's test, and for the analysis of correlations, Pearson's correlation was performed. The BV showed higher concentrations of cholesterol at 24h and 48h after colostrum ingestion (P<0.05), higher concentrations of triglycerides, HDL and insulin at 48h after colostrum ingestion (P<0.05) and LDL at 0h and 24h after colostrum compared to BN (P<0.05). BN had higher concentrations of GGT at 24h and albulin at 0h, 48h and 168h after colostrum, when compared to BV (P<0.05). Colostrum insulin reduced blood triglyceride concentration at 24h and blood glucose at 48h in calves after colostrum ingestion (P<0.05). Colostrum IGF-1 reduced blood glucose at 48 h after colostrum ingestion by calves (P<0.05). On the other hand, colostrum leptin increased blood triglyceride concentrations at 48h, blood glucose at 168h and PPT at 168h after colostrum ingestion by calves (P<0.05). Animals that received colostrum with higher concentrations of insulin, IGF-1 and leptin had lower mean OPG throughout the six months of age (P<0.05). Calves that receive colostrum with higher levels of bioactive compounds have better nutrient absorption and better immune response to infections caused by gastrointestinal nematodes.
