Abstract

The objective of this study is to analyze the representations of the feminine in French postcards, widely published and distributed during the First World War (1914-1918). The research aims to highlight how women were portrayed in this period, highlighting the use of images as a historical source. In this sense, the historical scenario is contextualized to establish connections with contemporary times, especially with regard to stereotypes about women in the period from 1914 to 1918. Working with postcards in the classroom, can help students to analyze and interpret visual signs, as this is a necessity for teaching history. It is possible, through the use of images, to open possibilities for reflection on how women were represented and the intentions of these representations, promoting reflections on issues of gender, power, violence, resistance and understanding the complexity of human actions in different historical contexts. The didactic production of this research presents the methodological steps to be applied in the classroom to observe the level of historical knowledge of students in the 9th year of Elementary School, allowing critical reflection on historical ruptures and permanence regarding women, based on postcards.
