Abstract
Considering that radio is distinguished from other media due to its live nature and, therefore,
undergoes a different marketing production process (Meditsch, 1997), the following research
addresses how police news is produced on the first radio station in Ponta Grossa (PR). Local
radio journalism, due to its proximity to a certain culture, is capable of creating or participating
in a local identity (Avrella; Zuculoto, 2013). Therefore, the research proposes an analysis of
radio journalism, in a local condition, and its relationship with the popular, observing the police
coverage of Rádio Clube Pontagrossense in the program “Grande Jornal Falado Clube”. The
research problem aims to elucidate the following question: what aspects of the coverage and
construction of police news on Rádio Clube Pontagrossense are similar to or different from
journalistic aspects? The hypothesis that guides this research was based on a previous empirical
and exploratory analysis that demonstrated some patterns, such as the choice of a single source
and the full reading of Police Reports from the Ponta Grossa Military Police, which distances
the routine of the station's program from journalistic practices. The main objective of the
research seeks to delimit and segment the product, aiming at the study of how police news
occurs on an 85-year-old rural popular radio station, and to elucidate to what extent journalistic
practices are present in this news. As a procedure, the Journalistic Coverage Analysis (ACJ)
protocol was used, with updates by Zimmermann and Zuculoto (2021) in addition to other tools.
