O "flagelo da fome": análise da cobertura sobre a fome e insegurança alimentar realizada por portais jornalísticos brasileiros no período de 2019 a 2022

Abstract

This research understands and problematizes the journalistic coverage of food insecurity and hunger in online news published by Brazilian news portals from 2019 to 2022. Thirty-one articles were analyzed based on criteria such as gender, race, social class, own production and elements of online journalism, organized into four thematic blocks: news structure, sources and credibility, images and multimedia, and intersectionality. Each block presented a series of questions that would be answered and examined as a result of the process of analyzing the journalistic material. The analysis was connected to the research objectives, investigating how the journalistic coverage was materialized, considering resources such as texts, photos, videos and graphics, for a broader understanding of the representation of the theme. Among the specific objectives, the following stand out: analyzing the configuration of the texts, the use of images and the nature of the sources of information, seeking to understand the plurality, or lack thereof, in the representations made in the analyzed articles. The results found that the coverage provided in the 31 articles was little explored by journalists, keeping the news limited to reports and research data. It was also observed that most of the sources were specialists. On the other hand, it was observed that different possibilities of formats were also used over the four years studied. In 2022, for example, it was possible to observe the use of podcasts and videos that make up the information in the articles. During the research process, chapters were proposed on human rights, intersectionality, a chapter on the contextualization of news and reporting, as well as its connection with online journalism, and also the explanation of the methodology developed and the elements analyzed in the articles.
