Cobertura Jornalística e Eleições 2018: Flávio Dino (PCdoB), Roseana Sarney (MDB) e Maura Jorge (PSL) nas Páginas de O Imparcial e O Estado do Maranhão

Abstract

The scientific paper analyzes how the three leading candidates for Maranhão state in 2018 Elections appear in the news coverage of the newspapers O Estado do Maranhão and O Imparcial. Through quantitative analysis of the journalistic content, the thesis verifies the characteristics of the journalistic coverage provided with Flávio Dino (PC do B), Roseana Sarney (MDB), and Maura Jorge (PSL). The research applies the interview technique to understand the perspective of the newspaper producers about press production. The corpus embraces 555 texts picked from the two newspapers, considering the cover page and politics section, between 16 August and 7 October 2008. The theoretical debate shows the appointment of the journalistic coverage in election times, the exposure of the candidates and parties in the pages, and how this attitude reverberates into them. Then, it contemplates the contributions of regional journalism to public opinion development and the definition of information. According to literature, it argues the data in the view of thematic production, publications genre, source, coverage, presence or absence of images, and valence in the introduction of the candidates. The main difference conclusion aims is the editorial treatment for Flávio Dino (PC do B), which points out when compares the two newspapers and the others politicians, in the run-up to Maranhão state election. In the information and opinion pieces in the newspapers, it guides and argues the elections in different frequency and approach.
