Abstract
Rural can be defined as a mediation that relates daily life, social interactions and work, however, the daily life to which it refers may not be anymore the same as it was some decades ago. Currently the concept of rural is no longer focused on agriculture, but it is something reconfigured, with the development of new mores, including to what regard to professions. Residents of remote locations from urban centers have characteristics that approximate these people to the city citizens, among them, in relation to access to the media and journalistic information. The general goal of this work was to conduct a reception study in the rural district of Itaiacoca to understand the consumption of journalistic information by the residents
and its relation with the transformations of a rural environment. This research sought to understand, relating the Jornal Nacional as a journalistic product, what kind of relationships occur between the identity of the residents of that district and the consumption of journalistic information. For the development of this research several methodological routes were carried out. The first steps were focused on conducting the exploratory research (BONIN, 2013) where questionnaires were applied in Itaiacoca to understand how residents of these regions consumed news and which vehicles were most used for this purpose. After a first phase of the exploratory research, four more visits to the district happened with an application of
questionnaires that seek a great deepening undersatnd of the questions that surround the
residents and their relations with the media. These stages showed, firstly, the characteristics of
a 'new rural' in Itaiacoca. It was noticed that the family routines, professions and access to the
means of communication of the families from the district already come, in many aspects, with
the characteristics of the inhabitants from the urban area. The results of these steps also
pointed out that television is the most sought-after means of communication for the consumption of news, through Jornal Nacional. Four families were chosen to be accompanied for a week during a newscast exhibition. This monitoring, called systematics, helped beter the perception and improvement of the citizens with the journalism and the role of journalistic information in the daily routine of the residents of the district of Itaiacoca.
