Abstract
Candido de Mello Neto (1933-2000) was a psychiatrist born in Ponta Grossa–PR. He has participated actively in medical associations and institutions, was a Campos Gerais Letters Academy member and a founding partner of Franco da Rocha Psychiatric Hospital (FRPH). Mello Neto trajectory is significant given its cultural e symbolic capital. His authorized speech has extrapolated the psychiatry field, especially for having inherited some familiar social relationships that contributed to his entry into other areas of knowledge, such as the academic field. In this sense, this work intends to understand his professional trajectory, sociability and social/cultural networks where he has acted. In order to do so, were analyzed the author’s personal documents, such as letters, declarations, photos and official documents — which are part of the Candido de Mello Neto Collection (CMNC), available for research at the Campos Gerais Museum in Ponta Grossa–PR — from Pierre Bourdieu theoretical references allied to the Intellectual History presuppositions. With the sources analysis it was possible to understand that the importance of Mello Neto is not restrict to his family relations and to Anarchism. His trajectory contributed significantly to the development of psychiatry in the Campos Gerais region, including Ponta Grossa in the current mental health practices in Brazil.
