Literatura e Jornalismo: um estudo documental da Gazeta de Notícias (RJ) entre os anos 1890 e 1900

Abstract

This paper seeks to show how the relationship between Literature and Journalism happened in the years between 1890 and 1900. To do so, microfilms of the periodical Gazeta de Notícias made available by the Biblioteca Nacional Digital were analyzed. The analysis sought the daily editions of the periodical with the objective of cataloging any and all mentions and writings in literary genre formats. It does not matter if large or small number of lines, that resulted in great repercussion or not. Once the data is collected, we seek to understand how literature circulated in the midst of journalism, what space it had in this periodical, who were the literary writers who had this space, for how long this space remained, what were the variations over the years, which genres stood out the most, which pages they mostly occupied, and so on. Finally, it is intended to propose a reflection of studies that escape anachronistic perceptions of literature by allocating works and texts in their contexts of publication and circulation. And, furthermore, to seek to understand the potential harmony between the literary movements of the studied period and the publications of the Gazeta de Notícias.
