Abstract
In this work, we analyzed a post and five headlines that bring the theme “politics”, posted on the social network Facebook. We tried to describe the existence or absence of treatment of (im)politeness. The analysis was carried out based on the pragmatic aspect of politeness to describe its manifestations in verbal interactions. For that, we used as a theoretical basis the Theory of Politeness proposed by Brown and Levinson (1987), among other scholars of the subject. In view of the increase in research related to politeness in the mother tongue in several areas, our interest was to seek this data on the social network and verify its manifestation to describe whether people, when expressing their opinions, seek to maintain the harmonious character in interpersonal relationships. Through verbal language posts, we analyze important linguistic issues about politeness and (im) politeness that can shed some light on virtuous interpersonal relationships. We also analyze how the subjects are built on social networks. Social media is where people can interact, talk, share views and disagree. But it is also a space that often do not use face preservation strategies, that is, they contribute to (im)politeness. The analysis points out that in social networks, users often do not use face preservation strategies, it is a space that contributes to (im)politeness. Not that social networks make users more impolite, but in the virtual space people allow themselves to use strategies that threaten the face.
