Abstract

This research aims to analyze dialogically the speeches of the deputies of the Evangelical Parliamentary Front - known as the Evangelical Bench - in the opening vote on the process of dismissal of ex-president Dilma Rousseff, in order to investigate some echoes that constituted their statements. The studies of the Bakhtin Circle are the theoretical basis of this research, especially in Bakhtin (1993; 2003 and 2018) and Volóchinov (2018) where are presented key concepts, such as dialogism, ideology and sign. The analysis data were obtained through the minutes of the session of April 17, 2016 through a transcript of the speeches of all the deputies present and the possibility of filtering those who made up the Evangelical Bench. Among these, 94.5% were in favor of dismissal and 5.5% against it. The analysis of the speeches of these deputies allowed us to observe some discursive regularities and, thus, the grouping of justifications in five categories: electorate; values; salvation; legality; and voice of the people. Of these five, two were in evidence: values and salvation, which were analyzed from the perspective of Dialogic Discourse Analysis (ADD), which allowed the analysis of other voices that echoed from the speeches of this Bench. It was found that by enunciating God and family, echoes of the March of the Family with God for Freedom, in 1964, could be heard, which brings one event closer to the other, considering that both culminated in an attack on democracy. God and family are values that, on both occasions, were under some kind of “attack” and were used as symbols to claim a change. It was also found that this demand for change reverberates not only in values, but also in the economy, since the very conception of the State was at stake, also observing the chronotope in question. The results obtained show that the speeches of the Evangelical Bench in the vote to dismiss former President Dilma Rousseff were not homogeneous, but the majority were in favor of the dismissal, having as central justifications the spread of their values and the break with the State of Social Welfare and the establishment of neoliberalism in Brazil.
