Abstract
The field of religion tends to be characterized by the tone of seriousness and not of humor. Emphasizing the function and relevance of humor in a religious social practice, the case of preaching, which deals with issues related to the sacred and, therefore, considered serious, was the main motivation for the realization of this dissertation. Fur-thermore, for that matter, this research aims to investigate the communicative/interpre-tive humorous path in the pastor Cláudio Duarte’s religious discourse, a media phe-nomenon on the Internet. The theoretical frameworks that underlie this study are: the Relevance Theory (RT) by Sperber and Wilson (1995) and the Santos' humor studies (2009, 2014). Other authors who will be mentioned in this study are: Raskin (1985), Attardo and Raskin (1991), Possenti (1998), Bergson (2004), Muniz (2004), Dascal (2006), Andrade (2017), Freitas (2017) and Lima (2019). The analyses of the tran-scribed excerpts allowed to verify some strategies of humor production used in a more recurrent way, such as humorous texts, ad hoc jokes and the narrated jokes during Duarte's preaching in the religious context, a resource that is not used unpretentiously; in fact, it constitutes a resource that contributes efficiently for the pastor’s humorous discourse in order to produce laughter, ostension and achieve the accession of the auditorium.
