Professor Dionísio Burak: história de vida, modelagem matemática e educação matemática

Abstract

Professor Dionísio Burak is widely recognized for his research on Mathematical Modeling, possessing extensive academic training and being the author of several books and articles that promote an interactive approach to basic education. This research aims to analyze Professor Dionísio Burak’s life history and his relationship with Mathematics Education, with particular emphasis on the process of constructing Mathematical Modeling within this field. The investigation seeks to clarify the connections between Professor Burak’s life history and the development of Mathematical Modeling in the context of Mathematics Education. In this regard, a systematic literature review was conducted to identify studies discussing life histories and assess whether they could be linked to the current research. The dissertation is a qualitative study, and the following methodological approaches were adopted: (I) bibliographic research and deepening on the topic, (II) data collection through interviews and dialogues, photographs, a book composed of letters addressed to the professor, and his Lattes curriculum, (III) data analysis. The study includes the development of a genealogical tree of researchers based on Professor Burak’s life history, noting contributions and theoretical evidence related to the theme. Data were collected through conversations and interviews with the research subject, Professor Dionísio Burak, which were recorded using the Google Meet platform. The first stage of this process involved gathering information related to encounters and interactions throughout his journey that led to his current understanding of Mathematical Modeling. The analysis was carried out through a narrative process, emphasizing the professor’s speech and highlighting his experiences and contributions in research and education. The dissertation is organized in a multipaper format, comprising a collection of five articles. In summary, this study opens avenues for new research and contributes to future investigations, as well as to the academic field.
