Abstract
Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease and rapidly rising especially in developing countries, its complications can be severe and are frequent causes of absenteeism and hospitalizations, which generates costly expenditures to public safe. One of the complications resulting from diabetes is the diabetic foot and chronic wounds of difficult healing that can lead to more severe cases of amputation. This study aimed to develop an innovative membrane of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) incorporated with ferulic acid nanocapsules (nano_AF) and the evaluation of its effectiveness in the healing of wounds in the dorsal region of diabetic rats induced by Streptozotocin (STZ) 60mg/kg. The membranes were evaluated by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), mechanical tensile strength and electronic scan microscopy (MEV) test. It is about an experimental study with a sample of 90 female Wistar rats, the animals were divided into six treatment groups and evaluated for 21 days where blood samples were collectec weekly and removed fragments of the animal injury. All procedure followed the ethinical principles of animal experimentations and were authorized by CEUA. The results demonstrated the greeat healing potential and ferulic acid in the Wistars rats lesions area at the end of the treatment when compared to the other groups. CMC due to its potential to retain liquids caused excess moisture to the lesions taunting a delay in healing in the first 7 days of the treatment in the groups CMC, nano_0 and nano_AF. The group that used CMC membrane with free AF presented superior results from the first week of treatment compared to the others groups and proved through histological analysis in HE. It is belived that this result is associated with the potential of modulation of the growth factor of the vascular endothelium (VEGF) and the growth factor derived from human platelets (PDGF). The biochemical values of oxalacetic glutamic transaminase (TGO) Glutamic-Pyruvic transaminase (TGP), urea and creatinine did not undergo major alterations due to the treatments instituted whent compared with the values of other Bioterians and the same rat line lineage. This study sought a new perspective of treatment for wounds resoulting from diabetes. Ferulic acid may be a future option for treatment, it is ponited out the need for further studies on the incorporation of nanocapsules into membranes.
