Abstract
In order to reduce time, cost and improve diagnostic accuracy, the search for new technologies for the identification of pathogenic microorganisms has intensified in the medical field. The rapid identification of pathogens in patients who are hospitalized is critical, as it enables early initiation of appropriate antimicrobial therapy, ensuring infection prevention and control. MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry has been shown to be a highly promising technique for the identification of microorganisms. In clinical
practice, this technology works in a revolutionary way, as it allows the identification of pathogenic bacteria in a short time and at a low cost compared to traditional biochemical or molecular analysis methods. However, due to the great bacterial diversity, for accurate and adequate identification there is a need for solid and complete databases. In this scenario, a tool that has been gaining prominence is Ribopeaks, a software capable of performing the identification of bacteria in a very robust way and
with great power of assertiveness. Aiming at improving and expanding the information provided by the Ribopeaks software, the present work aimed to build a database with information regarding pathogenic genes, allowing, in addition to taxonomic identification, to also provide data regarding possible antimicrobial resistance presented by the identified bacterium.
