Abstract
Migraine is a type of primary headache, characterized by a severe headache, which appears pulsating and unilateral. Symptoms as nausea, vomiting, photophobia and phonophobia are characteristic of this pathology. More than 80% of patients report that stress is the main stimulus for migraine. It is believed that hormonal change influences the development of migraine. Considering an estimated that thirteen million of Brazilians have daily headaches, stands out the importance of tools that aid in their diagnosis in order to treat them early. The objective of this research was perform the noninvasive monitoring of the Intracranial Pressure (ICP) of patients with chronic headache or migraine, relating the measurement to the clinical condition of them. Two groups were evaluated, 1) patients without migraine (n=25) and 2) patients with migraine (n=37). It was observed that regarding ICP, the migraine group showed greater alteration when comparated to the control group, based on the P2/P1 ratio. Besides that, it was observed that individuals with migraine have a higher average age when compared to the control group. As well as, individuals with altered ICP have a higher average age when compared to individuals with normal ICP. It can also be observed that the occurrence of migraine is related to gender, being more frequent in females. It can be concluded that individuals with migraine have greater chances to suffer alteration in their ICP when comparated to the individuals without migraine. It is believed that the introduction of the noninvasive method into the clinical routine of the patient evaluation bring benefits for the diagnosis and monitoring migraine.
