Abstract
The excessive exposure of children on social media by their parents or guardians is referred to
as oversharenting, which is the focus of this research. This study seeks to determine whether
this practice constitutes a breach of parental responsibility due to the sharing of information
related to children, such as photos, videos, or personal data, while also considering the
protective measures granted to them under brazilian law. Using deductive reasoning and direct
and indirect documentary research techniques, the study starts with the assumption linked to
the impact of technology on family relationships and the view of children as subjects of rights.
It then addresses the supposed need for social media exposure in conjunction with the analysis
of personal rights. Following this, the research discusses the impacts of oversharing, relating
them to the parents' freedom of expression, as well as aspects related to personal data protection
and the accountability of platforms. By analyzing specific cases on the social network
Instagram® and rulings from Brazilian Courts, the study illustrates the landscape associated
with the phenomenon. The findings indicate that excessive exposure of children on the internet
by parents can lead to the suspension or loss of parental responsibility due to harm to childhood,
which may extend into adulthood. Furthermore, it is found to be a multifaceted issue requiring
action on multiple fronts to seek a solution. Finally, in line with the translational perspective of
the master's program to which this research is linked, an educational guide is presented with
suggestions for implementation in schools, aimed at raising awareness among parents,
guardians, and caregivers about the use of social media. This material serves as a foundation
for the continuation of the study and analysis regarding its inapplicability in practical reality,
for the validation of results.
