Abstract
The general objective of this dissertation was to research and analyze the counter-hegemonic
content in postgraduate programs in language studies and/or literature, specifically in
language and linguistics studies. The objects of analysis were the Postgraduate Program in
Language Studies at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) and the Postgraduate
Program in Literature at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR). Thus, the research
addresses themes that integrate social practices at the center of hegemonic control, in order to
understand the counter-hegemonic movement present in the curricula of two postgraduate
courses in language studies at UEPG and UFPR, in order to better understand this model of
sociocultural practice. To support the analysis, post-critical curriculum theory was used, as we
understand that it comes from other proposed approaches, such as critical and traditional
theory, since these theories precede post-critical curriculum theory. It can be said that
post-critical theory emerges as a way of confronting the traditional hegemonic paradigms that
continue to be present in the curricula of postgraduate courses in Brazil (Santos, 2003).
Furthermore, when studying language, it is impossible to dissociate it from the power
relations that permeate it, since it is through language that we produce and reproduce patterns
of domination pre-established by hegemony. The methodology adopted for this research was
qualitative, documentary and bibliographical, and Bardin (2011) was used to understand the
data analysis. When analyzing the curricula of the postgraduate programs of UEPG and
UFPR, we found signs of counter-hegemonic actions present in these documents, through
their course syllabi, found in material available on their respective websites.
