Revisão taxonômica das espécies de Placoceratias Enderlein, 1910 (Diptera: Keroplatidae: Keroplatinae)

Abstract

Placoceratias Enderlein 1910, is a genus belonging to the family Keroplatidae and the subfamily Keroplatinae. Until the present study, it has seven exclusively neotropical species. The group has not been revised since 1990, which was studied by French entomologist Loïc Matile. With the availability of biological material from various regions of Brazil, a review of the group was made, which proposes three synonyms, updated descriptions, with new illustrations and photos, a dichotomous key to the genus and expansion of the geographic distribution of its species. And for the first note on the life cycle of Placoceratias bimaculipennis species are described.
