Abstract

This research aims at an analysis of the fantastic identified in the manga Another, by Yukito Ayatsuji and Hiro Kiyohara, from the perspective of the language of comics as a system by Thierry Groensteen. To contemplate this study, we start from the authors/critics of fantastic literature who understand it as a destabilization and subversion of the real, being, respectively, David Roas and Rosemary Jackson, combined with a specific theoretical contribution of manga and fantastic in Japan with Nobuyoshi Chinen, Sonia Bibe Luyten and Susan Napier. The work also undertakes a bibliographical survey of the different perspectives of reality present in Japanese culture in order to offer elements to understand the levels of subversion of reality effected by the fantastic discourse in that culture. The perception of the fantastic in the work starts from the doubt about the existence or not of Misaki Mei, whose analysis lies on the reasons behind the destabilization of the reader and the protagonist before Mei and the “calamity/curse” that permeates the class "3-3".
