Revisão taxonômica das espécies neotropicais de Heteropterna Skuse, 1888 (Diptera: Keroplatidae)

Abstract

The Neotropical fauna of the genus Heteropterna Skuse, 1888 was reviewed, resulting in updated knowledge about the morphology and distribution of its species. In this study, we present redescriptions, diagnoses and photographs of habitus and male terminalia for all species analyzed. As a result of this research, we synonymized H. triangularis with H. trileuca. Also, seven other new species were found. The distribution data of Heteropterna species in Brazil and South America were updated, going from four to six species, and their occurrence was recorded in 17 Brazilian states. Additionally, new occurrences were identified in Colombia, Ecuador and Suriname.
