"Contenda estulta": as crônicas de Raul Gomes e as representações de Ponta Grossa - PR no Jornal O Progresso (1912)

Abstract

This dissertation aims to analyze a set of chronicles entitled Ponta Grossa hoje, written by Raul Gomes and publish in the newspaper O Progresso, in 1912. These texts are understood as a document / monument of the speech and representation of the city of Ponta Grossa, in which it is appointed as a modern town, and the chronicler still projects it, for a near future, as an “ideal city”. Such these chronicles were written by the journalist with the pretext of mediating a possible disputed among the newspapers of that period, about what city, Paranaguá or Ponta Grossa, would be a second in hegemony in the Parana state, after the capital Curitiba. Thus, there is a question about the elements that make up these chronicles, certificate, in fact, a representation of the modernization process of the city of Ponta Grossa. The texts cover components that aim to describe the impressions collected by the author, using the survey of data such as industry, commerce, entertainment, intellectuality, geography and economy. There are also transcripts of interviews with local personalities. To understand the content of the texts, it is necessary to analyze them as well as the representations of the city applied by the journalist Raul Gomes, using his considerations. Among the authors cited to develop the project are Benjamin, Bourdieu, Capelato, Chartier, Chaves, Ginzburg, Le Goff and Pesavento.
