Abstract
Facial trauma is one of the most significant injuries that an individual can suffer as it
has emotional and aesthetic consequences. The etiologies involved in facial trauma
are multiple, and when considering female patients, we can add violence against
women among them. Violence against women is a social and public health problem
that overcomes social, cultural, socioeconomic and age barriers, causing physical and
psychological changes in victims. Objective: the objective of this study was to obtain
data related to facial trauma of hospitalized women, discovering the profile of patients,
the main characteristics of the trauma and treatment instituted, as well as evaluating
the etiologies involved, observing if there was presence of aggression and domestic
violence. amongst them. Methodology: A retrospective study was carried out with
analysis of the medical records of patients hospitalized at the Hospital Universitário
Regional dos Campos Gerais with facial trauma from 2016 to 2020. After data
collection, statistical analysis was performed using the SPSS program (Statistical
Package for the Social Sciences). Results: the most present age group were women
aged 31-60 years (49.21%), single (58.73%) and white (90.48%). The most common
etiology was car accidents (31.75%). The most fractured bone was the Nose (41.27%)
and the most performed treatments for correction of facial fractures were Surgical
(46.03%). There was statistical significance between the etiology and the type of
treatment that the patient needed, with victims of car accidents requiring more surgical
treatments and victims of falls requiring more conservative treatment. Domestic
violence appears as an important etiology within this context and when added to cases
of aggression, there is a percentage of 34.92% of facial trauma caused by some type
of violence against women. Conclusion: Thus, violence against women is observed as
an important factor among the etiologies of facial trauma, which needs more attention
so that preventive measures can be taken to reduce these rates.
