Abstract
This study aimed to analyze the theoretical and methodological aspects of the production of knowledge related to the LGBTQIAPN+ population (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transvestites, Transsexuals, Transgenders, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, Pansexual, Non-binary, and other sexual and gender identities), in History in Brazil, based on the analysis of dissertations and theses produced on the subject in Stricto Sensu Graduate Programs in the area. The specific objectives were: a) to
present the historiographical production about the LGBTQIAPN+ population in Brazil, based on the existing relationship between Feminist and Gender Studies. b) identify the academic production (theses and dissertations) related to the LGBTQIAPN+ population in History; c) examine the conceptual and epistemological perspectives on the LGBTQIAPN+ population based on theses and dissertations in History. Regarding the epistemethodological assumptions, the research adopts the combined
theorization as a reference to understand gender from the conceptions exposed by Butler (2003), Haray (2004), and Scott (1995). When discussing historiography, it was necessary to get in touch with references such as Fico and Polito (1996) and Schmidt (2021), and the assumptions of analysis, it was based on the meta-research developed by Mainardes (2021a). Based on this reference and the data available in the Theses and Dissertations Bank of CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of
Higher Education Personnel) (1987-2018), a mapping of 90 works on the LGBTQIAPN+ population in History in Brazil, produced in Graduate Programs. I argue that there are absences and silences related to certain groups in Brazilian historiographical production, among them, the LGBTQIAPN+ population. The BDTD CAPES (1987-2018) has 22,840 dissertations and theses produced in Graduate Programs in History, however, of the number of existing works in History in the bank, only 0.4% refer to the LGBTQIAPN+ population, which justifies the need for analysis and characterization of the production of knowledge on the subject, identifying similarities, particularities and, above all, the obstacles to its expansion.
