Cobertura eleitoral regional: um estudo sobre os enquadramentos em portais de notícias online dos Campos Gerais na Eleição Geral para o Governo do Paraná em 2022

Abstract

The present research aims to analyze the electoral coverage of the General Election for the Government of Paraná in 2022 from 14 online news portals distributed among eight cities in the Campos Gerais region, taking into account aspects of journalism produced locally and regional (Dornelles, 2004; Assis, 2013; Aguiar, 2016) in its relationship with politics (Peruzzo, 2005). The aim is to understand how the dispute for the position of Head of State was regionally based, highlighting that there were nine male and female candidates competing for the position and that, in this context, the public turns its attention to the media in search of guidance on the electoral process (Mccombs, 2009). To meet the objectives of this study, it was necessary to use a quantitative-qualitative approach (Bardin, 2011), as a large part of the data collection relied on quantification. Initially, we mapped the online news portals in the Campos Gerais region, as well as their populations and voters eligible to vote in the 2022 election. In a second movement, comprising the time frame of June 1, 2022 (pre-campaign phase) On October 2, 2022 (end of the electoral campaign), the collection and categorization of publications about the electoral race was carried out on the aforementioned online portals, resulting in a research corpus of 282 publications. With the data organized in tables, we move on to the moment of qualification, based on the Framing Theory (Entman, 1993; Goffman, 2012; Tuchman, 1993) and the categorization proposal applied during electoral periods (Porto, 2002).
