Abstract
The research presented here has as study object the Non-Mandatory Internship
realized by students at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG) in Paraná. The
problematic which guided this research was: How the Non-Mandatory Internship
realized by the students at State University of Ponta Grossa has become effective in
the current scenario of capitalism and what is its relation to the current forms of labor?
Therefore, the general objective of the research is unveiling how is effectivated
realization of the Non-Mandatory Internship and its current forms of labor in the context
of capitalism. The method utilized for the investigation was Historical and Dialectical
Materialism based on the writings by Antônio Gramsci (1976, 1978, 2001, 2007), and
the central categories were Work, Hegemony and the State. The specific objectives
were the following: a) Identifying how the students are living he Non-Mandatory
Internship at UEPG; b) Verifying the relations between the legal devices on Non-
Mandatory Internship and its practical interpretation; c) Analyzing the characteristics of
the work in the contemporary context of capitalism under the influence of the neoliberal
state and their possible relations with the Non-Mandatory Internship. To meet these
objectives, the methodological resource is theoretical research focused on documents,
with the analysis of Laws, Decrees and Ordinances which regulate the Internship, and
the diagnostic qualitative approach with: the realization of interviews with interns and
with the responsible for the hiring of interns at UEPG, the identification of quantity of
interns at UEPG and the locations of actuation. The results indicate the new
configurations of work, its flexibilization and the non-compliance with the legislation in
its implementation and development of the Non-Mandatory Internship, open paths so
the internships is collaborative to the capital, which might utilize the student’s labor as
a form of economy in order to not hire a professional with a signed work card, what
would call for larger pay and workers rights. In the university context analyzed, the data
indicate that, even based on the students’ need of receiving the aiding scholarship, the
activity of Non-Mandatory Internship is important for the professional formation, having
in sight it offers experience for the future labor exercise.
