Influência da violência no desempenho escolar na microrregião de Ponta Grossa

Abstract

Violence has deep roots within relationships, including in the school environment. Its impacts are evident in the economy and in the quality of life of society. A great way for reducing violence is education, however, measuring violence within schools is not easy and there are few studies in the literature that address this topic. In this sense, the goal of this thesis is focused on the relationship between violence and school performance, as measured by IDEB. The data collected are at the school level that offer the Early Years and Final Years of Elementary Education for the Microregion of Ponta Grossa in 2017 and the bases used are the School Census and the SAEB.Specifically, the data collected in the SAEB questionnaires were used to build indicators about the violence and safety of educational institutions. The method chosen for the calculation was the Factor Analysis. The models estimated for each level of education use the indicators found for violence, security and also school conservation, the following variables were included: average number of students per class, complexity in school management, rate of teachers with higher education, teacher adequacy and average socioeconomic level with a high to seek a more complete characterization of students, teachers and school, the selected estimation methods used spatial econometrics as a theoretical basis. The main results found can be highlighted: violence in the Early Years negatively affects student performance and for the Final Years, violence and the use of alcohol and drugs have a negative effect on IDEB. The present study brings an important contribution to the understanding of the dynamics between violence and school performance, even though the results found do not present a totally expected behavior, their contribution is valuable for the theme.
