Ensaio clínico randomizado sobre a influência da curva de compensação na função mastigatória de usuários de prótese total.

Abstract

Total dentures have been used for many years as a rehabilitative treatment for toothless teeth. However, there is no consensus in the literature on which occlusal parameters are appropriate to use in the manufacture of these prostheses. There are no studies in the literature that prove which technique more efficiently reestablishes the masticatory function in patients with total prostheses in relation to prostheses fitted with a flat or curved occlusal plane. The aim of this study was to determine, by means of a randomized triple blind crossover clinical trial, the influence of the compensation curves on masticatory performance, swallowing threshold, percentage of accumulated weight, volume of distribution and number of distribution in users of complete dentures. Masticatory tests were performed using the multiple sieve method, using the Optocal artificial test food. The number of cycles used were: 20.40, 60 and swallowing threshold. Total prostheses were made for 10 randomized patients from the mouth rehabilitation clinics of the State University of Ponta Grossa. At the end of the research, 7 patients remained, randomly divided into 2 groups: group 1 received the prostheses with a curved occlusal plane and group 2 received them. with the flat occlusal plane; in both groups the variables mentioned above will be analyzed in the periods of 1 week and 1 month after installation. The prostheses received occlusal adjustment after 1 week of installation. Since the prostheses with curved occlusal plane the adjustments were made in centric / eccentric occlusal contacts, the prosthesis with the flat occlusal plane received adjustments only from centric contact. After 1 month of installation, patients in group 1 received flat prostheses and group 2 received prostheses with curved planes, undergoing the same tests and adjustments in the same periods of time. The data were explored and analyzed, normality was not found, being used to analyze Wilcoxon's non-parametric test, analyzing all variables between groups 1 and 2 for the time period of the first and second tests, groups 1 and 2 separately in both testing periods. In all analyzes, there was no significant difference p> 0.05. The choice of the occlusal parameter in total dentures, as well as the disocclusion pattern, does not influence the user's masticatory capacity.
