Abstract

The prison experience has been gaining discussions in the academic environment, as the number of people who go through this experience has been growing day by day. The social imaginary builds images and representations about the prison space and warms up the scope of discussions on violence, public security and punishment. Thus, the objects of study of this research were the narratives and reframing of people who passed through the prison system of Ponta Grossa-PR, in the period of 2007-2019. The objective was to address the prejudices and stigmas experienced in different social spaces by the graduates. The snowball of oral history of interview recordings was used, which included testimonies from seven graduates, between men and women. Edward Palmer Thompson's perspective on conflict with the law and the construction of collective customs, the categories of gender and experience by Joan Scott, the concept of memory by Bezerra de Menezes and identity from Pollak were used as a theoretical framework. From the analysis of the narratives, some aggravating aspects of the prison system were perceived, such as: the emotional abandonment that women prisoners face, the interruption of the exercise of motherhood, the stereotypes of masculinity reinforced in the codes of ethics and the tensions experienced in the prison environment. As for the period after the imprisonment, the narratives point to the prejudice experienced in society for being egressed from the prison system, even from friends and family; the difficulty in forgetting the memories of the period of seclusion; and the dream of using one's own life story to inspire others who may have the same experiences.
