Abstract

The aim of these studies was to evaluate the clinical performance of different materials in restorations performed by Minimum Intervention (selective caries removal) in primary molars of children aged 4 to 9 years. Study 1 evaluated the clinical performance of a dual polymerization resin-based restorative material (Cention N - Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) with and without prior application of universal adhesive compared to a resin glass ionomer cement (Vitremer, 3M Oral Care, St. Paul, MN, EUA) over 12 months follow up. Study 2 evaluated the Tetric N-Bond universal adhesive (Ivoclar Vivadent, Schaan, Liechtenstein) on self-etch or etch and rinse techniques associated with bulk-fill restorations over a 12-month follow-up. Study 3 verified the survival rate of ART restorations performed with two high viscosity cements: Íon Z (FGM Prod. Odont., Ltda, Joinville, SC, Brasil) and Ketac Molar Easymix (3M ESPE, St Paul, MN, EUA) in 24 months follow-up. The results of study 1 demonstrated that Cention N showed leves of longevity similar to the resin glass ionomer cement, however, the use of adhesive system is indicated for occlusal proximal restorations. In study 2, it was found that both adherence strategies tested (self-etch and etch and rinse) have similar performance over time. The data from study 3 showed a low degree of survival (occlusal and occlusal-proximal) in both materials used in the ART technique, with no difference significant btween classes. Further clinical studies in pediatric patients should be conducted to prove the efficacy, especially of new materials, as the correct choice of the best restorative material for primary teeth still impairs the dental professional. It is concluded that resin restorative materials can be used after selective removal. of decayed fabric. Glass ionomer cements, even those of high viscosity, still have limitations, particularly for composite cavities.
