Deliberação mediada na esfera de visibilidade pública: análise do debate mediado pelo Jornal GloboNews - Edição das 18h sobre as Eleições 2022 no Brasil

Abstract

This research aims to understand how the debate mediated by Jornal GloboNews – Edição das 18h about 2022 election in Brazil was constituted. This research is part of the interface between the potential of journalism to mediate expanded deliberative processes and the logic from which journalists operate. We use the concept of mediated deliberation (PAGE, 1996; MAIA, 2008), associated with the deliberative paradigm and understood as the debate that takes place within the sphere of media visibility over time, and we seek to understand how the newscast constructs debates around political themes. For that, we adopt dimensions and analysis criteria that aim to investigate how television news distributes its visibility quotas, what strategies are mobilized by journalists to interpret political facts and how the dynamics of television journalism condition the debate. It is concluded that Jornal GloboNews – Edição das 18h selected, organized and framed communicative flows that were dispersed in the public sphere, building a debate within the scope of the fragment of the sphere of media visibility that it occupies, adopting a position of alignment with the high leadership of the Judicial Power in defense of the electoral system and the Electoral Justice as a legitimate instance to lead that process. The debate built by the newscast provided limited possibilities for deliberation, conditioned by the characteristics of the format and language of the newscast and by the anti-democratic content of the claims against the election process, which required the journalists to take a position.
