A Importância da arborização urbana e sua gestão no âmbito da administração universitária

Abstract

The present research aimed to provide support for the management for urban afforestation at the State University of Ponta Grossa (UEPG), State of Paraná. To this end, an inventory and mapping of the afforestation were carried out on the institution's two university campuses, using a Google My Maps digital form, collecting tree information and data about the surrounding environment. In addition, responsible for bodies associated with afforestation management at the Higher Education Institution were interviewed. The survey comprised 5,112 trees, 98.7% on the Uvaranas Campus and 1.3% on the Central Campus. The trees belong to 100 genera, 37 species, and 46 botanical families. Of the total trees, 56.28% are native to Brazilian biomes, 41.18% are exotic, with 2.54% not being identified. Among the most frequent species are Araucaria angustifolia (Bert.) O. Ktze. (araucária) and Schinus terebenthifolia Raddi (aroeira-vermelha)), both native species. The ten most common species cover almost 50% of the total number of trees, the majority of which are exotic. Large trees predominated, with DBH between 0 and 20 cm, and classified as conservation status in the class of trees not evaluated (NE). To optimize actions related to afforestation, suggestions, such as pruning, safety, risk of falling, conflicts, species selection, and invasive species, were made based on the inventory. A database was developed as a product to collaborate with the management of afforestation within the university, making it possible to indicate management alternatives for better use of the arboreal heritage, as well as proposals for itineraries based on virtual maps, related to three purposes: maintenance, teaching-learning, and non-formal education.
