Abstract

This study aims to analyze the determinants of technological innovation in the State of Paraná, during the period from 2004 to 2019, based on the sextuple helix model. Considering the enactment of the State Innovation Law in 2012 as an institutional milestone, the period was divided into two intervals: 2004/2011 and 2012/2019. Initially, exploratory spatial data analysis was applied to identify patterns of spatial autocorrelation in the distribution of innovative activity across Paraná’s municipalities. Subsequently, the determinants of technological innovation were estimated through Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR), a technique that allowed capturing local variations in the effects of explanatory variables across the territory. The spatial analysis revealed positive autocorrelation in the distribution of patents, with the formation of High-High clusters, especially in the Western region and in the Metropolitan Region of Curitiba. The GWR results indicated that, in the second period, knowledge actors and innovation habitats gained greater relevance, suggesting that the law contributed to consolidating local ecosystems and fostering scientific and technological development in the State of Paraná.
