Para além das arquibancadas: fatores que influenciaram os votos dos associados da Gaviões da Fiel nas eleições presidenciais de 2018

Abstract

When addressing the 2018 presidential election, this thesis had as its starting point the following question: Did the fact of being a member of the supporter’s group Gaviões da Fiel (GDF) interfere with the choice of vote during the national Executive branch electoral process in 2018? Considering that in the 2018 election there were institutional stances from different organized fan groups, totaling sixty-nine groups overall, and that these stances were not unanimous among the members, it was defined as an empirical delimitation to approach the topic with a single organized group:Gaviões da Fiel. The choice is justified because this group is one of the largest and oldest organized supporters, as well as being linked to historical issues such as the “Corinthian Democracy” and pioneering demands regarding amnesty for political prisoners. Another delimiting factor was the first election held after the founding of National Association of Organized Fans (ANATORG). The objective is to understand if belonging to the supporter’s group Gaviões da Fiel interferes in the choice of the candidate who voted during the electoral election of the National Executive Branch in 2018. The specific objectives are: 1.Understand the category of “organized fan group”, specifically Gaviões da Fiel as a group; 2. Interpret the relations between a social group and the State; 3. Verify if there was institutional positioning by Gaviões da Fiel regarding the 2018 electoral process; 4. Identify the factors that were meaningful during the choice of the candidate for president that the Gaviões’ members voted in the 2018 Elections.This is a case study, using game theory and Elias’ power balance as theoretical frameworks. Netnography observation of GDF’s posts regarding the elections was used to identify the 19 subjects interviewed. Two distinct groups were defined: a) those who

held hierarchical positions in 2018 (9); b) those who did not hold leadership power (10). Semi- structured cybernetic interviews were conducted via WhatsApp video call. The snowball

sampling method was used for participant selection, and saturation criteria were used to determine the end of interview application. Content analysis proposed by Bardin was chosen for analysis. The formulated hypothesis and conclusions were: a) Organized supporters are influenced by their leaders and tend to follow the leadership’s voting recommendations: hypothesis refuted, as there were prior positions from those in favor, as well as participation in movements and political parties by members; b) Organized supporters assess the measures practiced by candidates regarding this group: hypothesis refuted; c) Organized supporters who voted differently faced sanctions from the group: hypothesis refuted.
