Abstract
The research carried out in this paper sought to understand and problematize the
treatment of indigenous histories in Brazilian historiography and schooling, and then
to build possibilities for approaching indigenous histories and cultures, especially that
of the Kaingang people, in high school history classes in Paraná. It is considered
that, even with the implementation of Law 11.645/08, there are still gaps in the
teaching of indigenous history that need to be overcome. The challenge posed by the
research is to conceive a plural understanding of what for so long has been
conceived as the "only indigenous history" and to reflect on how many historical
perspectives are possible for dealing with this issue, in order to question its
historiographical and school erasures. To do this, we turn to the postulates of the
New Indigenous History and Decoloniality as discussions that support a reading of
indigenous protagonism as subjects of their own histories, as well as a
bibliographical review of the material produced on the Kaingang ethnic group,
especially the Kaingang Apucaraninha Indigenous Land. The aim is therefore to
investigate the potential of using Kaingang Indigenous History in Paraná as an object
of study and reflection for the production of historical meaning, in its cognitive,
affective and identity dimensions, with young students.
