Abstract

Society is undergoing a demographic transition, characterized by population aging, which poses significant challenges to the public healthcare system. This dissertation aimed to analyze the promotion of health care for the elderly through a physical exercise group offered by an Estratégia Saúde da Família Unit in the city of Ponta Grossa, Paraná. A multipaper model, consisting of three articles, was adopted. The first consisted of an integrative literature review on functional decline and frailty in Primary Health Care (PHC) older adults, highlighting the importance of early detection and comprehensive care. The second article identified social representations of elderly participants in the “Health Friends” group, offered by Estratégia Saúde da Família Unit (UESF), regarding healthy aging, using the Theory of Social Representations as the theoretical framework and the focus group technique as the method. The results indicated that the group contributes to well- being, socialization, and health care. The third article examined the multidimensional aspects of the participants’ health status through the application of the Clinical-Functional Vulnerability Index (CFVI-20), revealing that most participants are classified as robust and have a good self- perception of health. It is concluded that the development of groups within the scope of PHC, such as those promoting physical activity, can be effective strategies for fostering healthy aging. Future longitudinal studies on the topic are recommended.
