Um dedo de prosa: as representações da natureza nos quadrinhos de Chico Bento Moço (2013- 2021)

Abstract

This research analyzes Chico Bento Moço magazines, published between 2013 and 2021, focusing on the representation of nature as a space and central theme of the narratives. Although nature continues to be valued as a symbol of preservation and rural identity, its approach reveals itself to be idealized and often superficial. Complex environmental issues such as deforestation, pollution, social inequalities, and the impacts of modernization in the countryside appear in a fragmented and individualized way, without due critical depth. Unlike Chico Bento’s classic narratives, which usually privilege collective solutions, Chico Bento Moço reinforces the idea that environmental preservation depends only on individual initiatives. Therefore, it is concluded that, despite the recurring presence of ecological themes and natural scenarios, the comics lack a more critical engagement with real-world socio-environmental challenges.
