Abstract

Urban afforestation can be understood as the set of a natural or cultivated arboreal vegetation present in a city, composing squares, parks, streets or other elements of urban green infrastructure. It provides environmental, social, psychosocial and economic benefits for a city and its population, as well as offering a number of ecosystemic services. The lack of planning for a city's afforestation can result in several problems, such as conflicts with power cables, sidewalks and other trees. In Paraná, the Public Ministry has determined that all municipalities must accomplish a Municipal Urban Afforestation Plan. Taking these aspects into consideration, this research aims to perform an analysis about the afforestation of sidewalks in Uvaranas neighborhood as well as understanding the spatial and phytophysiognomic characteristics of the trees found in the neighborhood. From the field survey, data were collected regarding height, origin, condition class, whether the tree presents conflicts with infrastructure, whether it has pests and diseases, among other factors related to the tree and the environment used, by means of a digital form of the Google My Maps. Uvaranas neighborhood has 3,405 trees: 51,9% of them are native, 39,8% are exotic and 8,3% have not been identified. With regard to the conditions of the trees, 90,2% are satisfactory, with few problems in their structure, and 37,4% are medium sized. Of the conflicts found, 56,4% of the trees present conflicting situations, mainly with power cables, another tree or sidewalk and 57,6% presented injuries to their trunk, mostly due to pruning. Compared to other neighborhoods in Ponta Grossa and other cities in Paraná and Brazil, the afforestation of the Uvaranas neighborhood presents similar characteristics in relation to the main species found, conflicts and injuries. The neighborhood has great potential for tree densification, however, recommendations must be followed, so the trees can be planted correctly in the right places.
