Abstract
Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have been used strategically by social movements, Civil Society Organizations and Associations, as a reorientation or broadening to understanding the citizenship, as a notion related to the exercise of civil, economic, political and social rights. In this regard, the importance of researching the websites of the Victim Associations of Thalidomide as a mode of relationship and mobilization in contemporary societies, combined with other traditional media, is considered as a possible promoter of citizen practices, an extension of citizenship, the virtual one, at the search for political recognition and the multiple identities of the individuals present in our society. Based on Disability Studies, citizen media research and new communication technologies, a network of those affected by Thalidomide's drug iatrogeny is sought, a possible understanding of the use of technologies as a facilitator of a citizen media that recognizes and gives visibility to the subjects and their histories, by allowing a dynamic of cultural and communicational interaction. For that, we analyzed the websites of the most representative Associations around the world. In order to reach these Associations, the Google Trends tool was used as a way to understand where the largest volume of research related to the topic of Thalidomide and related terms stem from. The objective is to understand how the communication of these groups represent them and intend the debate about the socio-political recognition of these people, the analyzed data were collected in the platforms of digital media and, later, categorized and examined, through the analysis of content, making possible inferences about attempts to transform public opinion and the political effectiveness of social constructions established around the use of digital citizen media.
