Práticas criativas entre geopoética e geosofia: paisagens de um ser carmelitano

Abstract

In this thesis, landscape is problematized as a lived, sensorial, and relational experience, articulating Humanistic Geography, phenomenology, creative methodologies, and artistic practices to understand how the body, memory, affect, and culture constitute ways of inhabiting and knowing the world. The study is grounded in the understanding that spatial knowledge is founded on the body, perception, and lived experience of places, perspectives supported by authors such as Merleau-Ponty and humanist geographers, who emphasize the lived, sensorial, and relational character of landscape. A geopoetic approach is proposed that integrates reflection and creation, recognizing that spatial knowledge emerges from gestures, materialities, encounters, and narratives that permeate everyday life. Throughout the chapters, the conceptual foundations of landscape, its history, and epistemological heterodoxy are discussed, as well as hybrid methodologies that intertwine a/r/tography, creative geographies, and geopoetics. Landscape is understood beyond it’s cultural and imagistic construction, as an embodied phenomenon that involves traditional knowledge, culinary practices, family memories, temporalities, and textures of living, focusing on the small inland town of Carmo do Rio Claro, Minas Gerais. By interweaving life, art, and place, the thesis argues that understanding landscape requires inhabiting it, allowing it to transform the investigative process itself, and recognizing that the creative act is simultaneously a form of thought capable of transcending dichotomies between subject and world, reason and sensibility, and nature and culture.
